Comprehensive Periodontal Exam & Evaluation

A Comprehensive Periodontal Evaluation & Exam is used to assess your oral health by examining your teeth, plaque, gums, bite, bone structure, and risk factors. When this is done annually, your periodontist will know your oral health status and more accurately assess any conditions, such as periodontal disease, that may need additional treatment. â€‹

Dental X-Ray and CBCT

Your periodontist may recommend a dental x-ray or CBCT to better assess specific conditions and more accurately establish a treatment options.

 

A full mouth x-ray (FMX) is a radiographic imaging method used to capture images of each tooth and surrounding structures. This is used to diagnose gum disease, cavities, dental abscesses, and lesions.

A CBCT or cone-beam computed tomography is a radiographic imaging method to produces 3D imaging or hard tissue structures. This is used to evaluate the underlying bone structure, nerve pathways, and surrounding soft tissue in high detail. This technology is instrumental in planning and performing successful surgical procedures, such as, dental implants. A CBCT scan helps your periodontist: accurately measure the shape and dimensions of your jaw; identify gum issues; detect signs of advanced disease such as lesions; locate the origin of pain; evaluate your nasal cavity, sinuses, and nerve canal. This technology is fast and comfortable. 

Comprehensive Periodontal Exam & Evaluation

The American Academy of Periodontology recommends a comprehensive periodontal exam on an annual basis. Your periodontist will assess your oral health and identify conditions that may need additional treatment. A comprehensive evaluation is also used upon referral to from your general dentist to a periodontal practice. This evaluation is utilized to establish a relationship with you as the patient and to determine appropriate treatment options based upon your specific needs and concerns.
